Search Fund¶
Definition¶
An entrepreneurial acquisition model in which an individual (the "searcher") raises capital from investors to find, acquire, and operate a single small business. Search funds typically target companies with $1M–$5M EBITDA and offer the searcher a path to CEO through acquisition rather than founding.
Context¶
In Ep. 4, Rod Jimenez mentions search funds alongside PE firms as part of the inbound outreach he received as CEO of SHR Group. He describes filtering through inquiries from "private equity groups ... search fund guys" on a regular basis, distinguishing between serious and generic outreach.
